Grace Jones - Xiongyue Yu Journal Entry 18

Grace JonesBloodlight and Bami

Director Sophie Fiennes has spent the last decade making this documentary, a stylish and unconventional look at the Jamaican-born model, singer and New Wave icon, the legendary Grace Jones, who some have called one of the fiercest women of all time. As the name of this documentary is, it is full of wildness and passion. White people of that period would even call her a man, they discriminated against her race, her skin color, her behavior and attitude, but now these people are paying the price of regret for their stupidity and prejudice. But Grace doesn't care about that, and through it all, she has made herself into something truly epic that will live on. Because she was good at breaking all the rules, after she had taken over the public eye, her attitude, her poise, her music, her style ...... were often imitated, but no one could replicate them, because she was a true original and a prodigy beyond her time and human talent.

With Grace Jones' own way and love, the documentary wants the audience to understand the idea that Grace is the foundation of everything: when people decide to always be themselves, they can enjoy themselves by living the life they want. Because Grace has spent her life proving exactly that, she became the person she wanted to be, raw and honest. She brings art to the table and energy about life and times.

Grace's avant-garde and bold inspiration and aesthetic still influences the fashion and art world today, although some people have not heard of her name or learned that the source of those ideas and styles was a legendary black artist back in the 70's because of the time that has passed. But she has gotten to live her life as she wanted to, and those who truly love art history will always remember her contributions.
